Harlan Howard wrote for more than fifty years and is credited with over 4,000 songs. The copyrights that remain under family administration are held across three publishing companies. Every title is listed on this site, by company and in a single combined catalog.
Harlan and Melanie Howard began Harlan Howard Songs, Inc., a BMI affiliated publishing company, at the beginning of 1990. A few years later they expanded the business with an ASCAP affiliated company, Melanie Howard Music, Inc., which Harlan lovingly named for his wife. It publishes both Harlan Howard titles and the work of writers signed to the company, among them Lori McKenna and Beth Nielsen Chapman. After Harlan's death, and in response to the reclamation of his songs, Legacy of Harlan Perry Howard, LLC was formed in 2012. It is also affiliated with BMI and holds the core of the Harlan Howard catalog, including many of the standards.
